Lived in HI 11 years now and had never ate at a Zippy's until now! No particular reason, just never have. We went with our neighbor for dinner the other night and had a nice time. I ordered the Korean chicken (1/2) with Mac salad. Was disappointed my other side could not be a salad...only options were other starches...! The chicken was tasty as well as the Mac salad...I found it to be super sweet, though my neighbor said it was spicy to him. Service was slow, even though there was not many people there and the other dining room was closed down. I'd go back and give them another go!

I like this Zippy's. It can get quite busy on the weekends, so we usually get there right around 8 and have no problems getting a table right away. When we leave, there's usually a line, though. I will admit i've only been to the dine in side, because we always have a rockin waitress--ask for Jaylynn's section and she will hook you up on the weekends! BTW, be nice to your waitress, she handles your food. As for the food, it's pretty typical Zippy's food, plate lunches and specials, but they have some awesome waffles and hubs enjoys the oxtail soup. If you are looking for a full belly without a broken bank, head to Zippy's.

When you live in this area and say you're going to Zippy's, often times, people would have to ask you: which one? The one by Long's? The one by Genki Sushi? The one at Pearlridge? Out of all three of those options, this one comes in second place. The Pearlridge Zippy's doesn't have a dine-in area, but this one and the one by Long's does. So what makes this one second place to the one by Long's? Its they fact that they don't have a sushi bar, and their service is lackluster. When I come here, the workers make me feel like they had all their energy sucked out of them, which, in turn, makes me feel like I had all my energy sucked out of me too. All I can say is this: you end up here. You don't go to this zippy's, you just somehow end up at it (or maybe it's because the better one is crowded).

When my boyfriend and I having a craving for local comfort food, we love going to Zippys! My boyfriend ordered take out and brought it over. My house is literally 3 minutes away from this location. He got us 2 large saimins and 2 grilled cheeses (our usual). When my boyfriend arrived at my house both of our saimins had no soup AT ALL!! We just had super mushy noodles, a couple pieces are charsui and kamabuko. We were about to call and complain but decided not to. Our grilled cheese sandwiches were super oily and soggy too! We've ordered from the Wahiawa Zippys and brought it back to Aiea before with no problems. Our grilled cheese was crisp and our saimin still soupy with firm noodles. I have no idea what happened to our food this time! Super sad face! Next time we definitely won't order take out or we'll just go to a different location.

I had to write another review for Zippy's, but this time it is good....and for a different location, Waiau. The staff is great, friendly and helpful. We ordered the special, pork cutlet, and the mushroom burger. It was great, the food was hot and delicious.

I really wish there were more late night options for food in Pearl City. I stopped by here last night because I was hungry and did not want to drive all the way home to get food before the gym. It was a long wait to order and to receive my food because it looked like they were short-handed. There was only one cashier in front struggling to handle both a long line and passing out food orders. I waited about 10 minutes to order and about 10-15 minutes for my food. I ordered a Zip Pack which came out fresh. Everything was piping hot like it was cooked to order. It was a really good Zip Pack. For the uninitiated, a Zip Pack contains white rice with furikake, a slice of takuan, a piece of fried chicken, a piece of spam, a piece of breaded and fried fish, and a piece of teri beef on a bed of cabbage. It is a lot, but I'm a big guy so I love big portions. Parking was plentiful and service was good considering how overworked the cashier was. I would definitely come back again if it is late and I want my plate lunch fix.

So slow and empty but tables & floors need to be cleaned. Bathroom smells like urine(light switch and hand dryer is horribly filthy!

I've been going to this Zippys since high school when my friends and I would need somewhere to eat and hang around after football games. It hasn't changed much except for the prices. My kids love to come here and get their favorites, chili frank and strawberry Belgium waffles. I like the vegetable omelet or the zip pac. The going price for the zip pac is $10.50 now! That's crazy for a bento! We are also in love with the maple bar and chocolate center donuts. There is a large variety of menu items ranging from salads, soups, plate lunch, bakery items and ice cream desserts. There is always something that will fit different tastes and appetites. This restaurant is pretty clean. Hit or miss with the servers. Some are super fast (tall hawaiian guy or skinny local lady are on it) or can be hella slow. Prices are above average in my opinion but I come here because my kids ask to.

Always slow service, waiting over 10 minutes just to sit down and its 9:30 pm! This happens every time we come here and once we sit down it takes over 10 minutes for a server to come! And they complain about lost of business from the rail? Maybe you should give better service and not blame the rail!!!

On the rare occasion that we meet out-of-town guests or extended (visiting) family members at Zippy's, we usually go to this Zippy's location because it looks nicer, newer and cleaner ever since the renovation. Parking can be a hassle at times--there's a lot, but most times it's full of cars when we go--but since we usually go for an early lunch or dinner, we're usually able to snag a stall. Service seems to be a bit slow at this location, but our orders have always been right and the food quality has been consistent. I can overlook slow service to enjoy my "Zip Pac," which I don't eat often since I no longer live in Hawaii Nei. Though we like local food, we also don't visit Zippy's too much because of the entrée price inflation and smaller portions. But, when we do dine-in at this local favorite, here's what we get: "Zip Pac": As of late, this is my go-to whenever I do visit Zippy's. The eatery's popular bento features fried chicken, teri beef, hoki (fish fillet), Spam and rice topped with nori furikake. I started getting the "Zip Pac" once the "Breaded Mahi Mahi" (my former favorite) started getting too expensive. I basically get the "Zip Pac" for the fish fillet and Spam, but I also do enjoy the fried chicken and teri beef. Bonus that the soft rice comes generously topped with nori furikake -- yum! If you're indecisive and can't decide on a specific meat, this is a good entrée because you get a sampler of meats. "Mahi Mahi Sandwich": I got this mahi sandwich once when I felt like deviating from my usual mahi plate entrée. This sandwich features deep fried mahi mahi on a toasted bun with tartar sauce and comes topped with onion, lettuce and tomatoes. I ordered my sandwich sans the onion and tomatoes--and with the tartar on the side--but it was a great-tasting fish sandwich. I got my sandwich with French Fries and it was the perfect duo. True to its nature, the mahi fillet was soft and tender -- gotta love that panko-crusted exterior and moist interior. "Chocolate Napple": This is probably my favorite dessert at Zippy's, and it has been for a while. The "Chocolate Napple" features a puffed pastry with a light, flaky turnover crust that melts in your mouth and is filled with a thin layer of chocolate. Like everything else on the menu, the famous Napples have gone up in price ... but I usually order two since I don't visit Zippy's that often--one for dining in, and one to take home and put in the fridge. Though "Chocolate Napples" are great warm--you can enjoy that fresh, flaky crust with the drizzle of warm chocolate on top and the layer of chocolate that oozes out with every bite--I actually like cold Napples as well. It's less messy to eat once the layer of chocolate becomes more solid! "Reese's Peanut Butter Donut": I remember getting super excited when I first saw this donut in the pastry display case. I think this "Reese's Donut" debuted when peanut butter was the flavor of the month ... and I guess it stuck around because of its popularity. But I love this donut because it's already topped with chocolate frosting, and it's finished with GENEROUS chopped-up chunks of my favorite candy on top. I could easily finish this larger donut in one sitting ... but I try to extend the lifespan of my dessert by only eating half a donut at a time. "Double Cocoa Fudge Brownie Without Nuts": This is one of my other favorites from Napoleon's Bakery. Because I like my brownies without nuts, I was pleased to see that there's a chocolaty option just for me! This moist and fudgy double cocoa brownie is chockfull of chocolate chips. I love how the brownie is slightly cakelike, but it's still fudgy and chewy. I also like the added texture provided by the chocolate chips. "Brownie Delite": When I got this sundae for dessert, I chose my favorite "Double Cocoa Fudge Brownie Without Nuts" as the base, and I enjoyed the scoop of vanilla and hot fudge that came on top. I ordered my sundae plain--no whipped cream, chopped nuts or maraschino cherry--but it was still delicious and provided that sweet fix I needed after a savory meal. The sundae can be shared if you're pretty full from dinner ... or, if you ate dinner with dessert in mind, you'll have no problem polishing this one off by yourself. "Dobash Cake": I've had dobash cake at other restaurants, but Zippy's is still the best. This classic, moist chocolate cake is topped with signature dark chocolate frosting (like pudding). Though I don't normally like chocolate pudding, the frosting consistency just seems to work on this dobash, and the frosting layer is thin and light enough for me to handle. I just love the cake's light and airy consistency ... definitely a must-try if you're visiting Zippy's for the first time.

I love Zippys! Some things us locals can't get enough of: Korean chicken, zip min, mushrooms burgers and you can never, ever go wrong with a zip pac. The only thing really different about Zippys (besides the ones that have the sushi bar...or the one on Vineyard that has a drive thru.. or the ones that don't really have a dining in area.. okay there are a lot of differences) but really, it's the service. I don't know if it's because my generation is frowned upon to be the way they are but I don't think we should have been treated any different. It was obvious that we weren't getting the same service as other tables. 3 stars: 1. Zippys is awesome 2. Food is awesome 3. They're open 24 hours

Chili cheese nachos were awesome but came in a little too small dish and they were very flavorful. Teri chicken sandwich was tasty but the sauce makes your hands very sticky. Veggie tofu burger was a little bit on the dry side. Orange crispy chicken salad was tasty and flavorful. My Portuguese bean soup and complimentary crackers and bun were ono the bun was super soft and the soup wasn't runny like most are runny. For dessert I had the haupia cake which was very moist and flavorful with sprinkled coconut shavings in it. The Apple Pie with a scoop of ice cream was okay but would have been better if it was heated up. The service was very good and speedy. Our waitress named Bobbie was very caring and always asked us if we needed anything and if everything was going great! !!

I just ordered from them this morning. My husband picked it up on his way home. I opened my chicken katsu and it was burnt! Like almost black! And my husbands hamburger steak wasn't even cooked!!!! I called them to let them know, and the lady took my name and phone number down, and told me they will replace our meal. Just come in whenever. So I called them a few hours ago, to tell them my husband and I will pick it up. And the manager tells me NOBODY wrote a note down!!!! He said he has to wait, and ask the staff! He then calls me a few seconds ago (2 hours after I first called) to let me know that they cant find any evidence that I ordered or bought anything, so I cant get my refund OR a replacement meal. This Zippys is so unorganized! Never will we eat from this Zippys again!!!!!!

I really can't decide which location of Zippy's is my favorite...but I know it's not this one! I've been coming here for years and although the place has gotten nicer, the food and service have not. They are quite rude here and the food takes forever! The portion sizes have definitely decreased over the years as well. The food is always delicious so that's what earns them a solid 3 stars. But I'd still recommend going to another location. The one in Sears in Pearl Ridge is a nice choice.

I give this place a zero because I just came from there. There's a ton of NATS flying all around you. It's like eating outside swooshing flys. So on my bad list at this place. Then my fries had left overs crumbs in my plate. I'm so not going back to this place.

Just like most local families....Zippy's is a staple. We go at least 1-2 times every week. Usually we end up at Waiau Zippys because it's the closest to our home. We've been going to Waiau Zippy's for years. Within the last 6 months things have really changed for the worst. Weekend evenings can take 30 mins to a hour just to get seated. The kicker??? Half the restaurant is empty or closed off. They say its because they don't have enough servers or not enough cooks. REALLY...on a weekend...every weekend for the last 6 months??? Tonight we waited 35 mins.. Another family beside me asks "weren't you here before that family?" I look up and realize that yes...we were. In fact we were here before 3 other families that were seated before us. When I checked with the hostess, she said "Oh we have trainees and they made a mistake." Fine...we still waited another 10 mins to get seated. By now my 5 year old is having a hunger meltdown. I asked her why the restaurant is empty and yet it took us 40 plus to get seats. She responded like always, that they were short cooks. On a saturday night! Why not let people know as the check in. At least they have time to make a choice to stay or leave. In the time frame that we were there, at least 3 families walked out. Service was fine as always, food was just as expected. Conclusion...WAIAU ZIPPYS SUCKS! Go 1 mile down the road to Pearl City Zippys. Never ever had issues there.

The lack of customer service and care at this place will guaranteed no future visits to this location!!!! Went to the restaurant side and 2 host/hostess came to the area that you wait to be seated and totally ignored us. Since no one wanted to seat us we seated ourselves. Things got worse from there since there were tables with dishes from the last customers at a few tables. Waited a few minutes after seating ourselves in the cleanest looking booth & was just skeeved by the dirty environment. Anyway we ended up going to the fast food side & ordered to GTFOH!! But we did get way better service than them. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!! Top it off while I was leaving the place 2 girls just walked over to the restaurant side and was immediately seated by 1 of the host that ignored us earlier!!! Smdh never again I'm gonna go to either the Waimalu or Pearl City Zippys next time I'm in this part of town!!! Thanks for a whole lotta nothing!

Decided to dine in with a couple friends after a long evening of doing a calculus and chemistry project. It was about 10 PM when we came into Zippy's. Decent amount of others dining in at the restaurant side. We were greeted by our waiter "Patriz". She was very friendly and attentive on checking up on us to make sure we are doing okay! I ordered the garlic rib steak- Cooked just perfectly at medium-rare. Overall, a nice late night meal. I will dine in again at the restaurant side again :)

Now if you read my review for the Pearl Ridge Zippy's you'd be asking yourself... "Why is she giving this Zippy's 5 stars?" Let me answer that for you.. Having a bad experience at my prior visit to Zippys was rough, however HR Customer Service contacted me and made my experience one that was taken seriously and treated. Enough to which I told myself I'd give it another go.. and boy was it worth it. This articular Zippys is SO CLEAN and well staffed it was amazing. I had a "Trainee" cashier and she was so delightful. She make sure me and my daughter had a good experience there, which is a lot for a new comer on the job. We ordered the Prime Burger Meal & Mini Mahi Mahi. Both were PERFECTLY cooked and served at right temps. They even offered a FREE refill (which was never done at other zippys' for me personally). Zippys has definitely earned its way back in my tummy.. Well, this location at least !

On Thursday 5/22/14 at approximately 8:00pm 3 of my friends and I went to Zippy's Waiau. We sat on the counter, there were 4 servers, two cooks and a manager on duty. It was a busy night, so we sat there on the counter. We sat there for 30 minutes without any service, no water absolutely no service at all. At approximately 8:30 we left the restaurant, the manager knew how long we were there and went to the drive in side and ordered. Service there was good. I have been a loyal customer of Zippy's Waiau since the late 70's or early 80's. If the restaurant service continues to be this poor I will not be going to any Zippy's restaurant. There are other 24 hour restaurant that are open and service is excellent. Once again I ask all of you if the service was this horrendous would you patronize this establishment?

No stars is what I'd like to rate this branch of Zippys! We went to the DINE IN side at Waiau Zippys Thursday 5/15/14 around 9:00 pm. It was half empty. Still took too long to get seated. Waiter named "Keith" I think brought us water and said he'd be back. We waited 30 minutes. He never came back so we just said heck with it and left the place. Front girl saw us leaving and just said "bye," like nothing happened. We went to the DRIVE IN side of the place and got our order right away. The DINE IN side is useless and insulting because of the lousy service. Don't waste your time or money in dining room! Especially evening shift. Staff doesn't care about customers at all. Sad. For years this particular Zippys was our favorite. Service used to be terrific. Now it's just a disgrace to the company!

Took them 24 minutes for a tofu burger and a omelete. Pretty long wait for something so simple. Cashier was friendly and fast though. Bathroom smells funky but at least it has a mirror. 2/5 expected a bit more

Probably one of the worse zippys on the island! Waited over 30 mins to get sat. Waited 10 minutes for the waitress to come and take our order. Waited another few minutes to get our drinks. Another 30 minutes to get our food! She forgot my piece of side chicken and the garlic fries. My mom waited an extra 10 minutes for her saimin, by the time she got it my dad and I were already finished with our food. She didn't bother to check up on us. Dessert took forever to come too. After we were done we just decided to just pay up front since we never like wait anymore longer for the check. Service always sucks at this zippys in particular! Zippys in pearl city by longs is waaaay better, service is always excellent there!

Zippys is Zippys. The food is MEHHHH especially for the price. The only thing I really like is the chili and fried chicken. The fried chicken is oily as FUK. I can literally feel the oil flowing through my veins and cleansing them of red blood cells. But thats why its so goooood!!! The flour Zippys uses is great. My friends and I have had many a late night memory made here. Thats why I give 3 stars. Napoleons Bakery $1.85 apple napple? SMH

I know food like the back of my hand. So when I order something you have on your menu, don't tell me that's how it should look or taste. The service is slow, we waited about five minutes before we were seated. That should have been the first sign but we were starving. Ordered the oxtail soup which came out pretty quick. I know oxtail has bits of fat and trimmings, but my soup was just a bowl of lard. Swimming among the lard was two pieces, worth a single bite of meat. Three peanuts, one shiitake mushroom, and four strands of Choi sum. I've been to Utage so I know my soup. To make matters worse my rice contained bits of corn and a distinct flavor, as if it was reused. *I bet my next paycheck that it was. Our server Lincoln was very friendly, and apologized on behalf of the presentation. The only thing that made us stay back to eat was his service. I don't recommend this place, it leaves a sour taste in your mouth and the chefs are unprofessional. Y'all have orders backed up and you're reusing food. Nah man, just take the drive further for better food.

Zippys is always an all time favorite. But this Zippys service is sooooooo bad. If your hungry your better off going to mcdonalds. Everytime I go here we wait at least 20 min for someone to take our order or ask what you wanna drink. Then another 20 min for them to bring your drinks back. Food comes pretty fast after your drinks. 2 stars cus food is yummy service is just terrible...

    (2)
  • Robthe M.

Wow! It's 10:44pm and no one is picking up the phone to take phone orders. As you walk in, it's clearly that the workers don't care. Why are you even there? If you aren't happy then find something else. The management needs to check up on the late evening shifts. I wonder how much business this place loses from NOT picking up phone orders. Sad! So sad guys! I won't be coming here anymore.

Always glad when someone says,"let's eat at Zippy's.." Because I know there is something on the menu for me to enjoy! Staff is nice at this location and always around to serve. It is clean and quiet and if you haven't...you must try the Kokua Pac...yumyumyum!!!!

I come to this Zippy's after my bi-weekly LARP, on a fairly regular basis. I always feel bad for the servers since our group is usually 10+ and we all want separate checks. They manage pretty well, though to be honest the service can be on the slow side. But maybe that's because everyone has late night munchies when we do and they have issues dealing with big groups. Anyways chili omelette is my go-to, and club sandwich with extra mayo is so ono. I love you Zippys.

My favorite Zippy's. Excellent service, ono food, and convenient for me. Zip Min is my favorite but everything on their menu is delicious. Enjoy an Island Favorite!!! Oh, and they updated their menu so it's a lot easier to look through!

(jan 10,2015...1130am) i hope zippy's human resource will step up and take action to what we experienced as paying customers. our server, evelyn was by far the worst server ever. i know all about restaurant business. especially coming from a server point of view, because i too was a server for 15 years. why would you expect a customer to give you 1/2 a cent or even a tip after the experienced we recieved???? excuse me but tip means: t- to i-insure p-proper s - service that we did not get! not even a hello or good morning or thank you for waiting kinda greeting! even when she was done closing my check we got no thank you or have a nice day! nothing! i had to go get her myself to refill our waters. ... no enjoy your food when we got it.. nothing! !! did we look the type that was not gonna give her a tip? really? well, she chose the wrong table to ack like we did not matter ! and where do i see her as we we're leaving??? standing around when she could be refilling waters or getting someones check or acknowledge a new table etc.... shake my head..... terrible example to your company. .. seriously!

So last night...day before Thanksgiving we decided to go to Zippy's after some late night shopping. We got there are about 12:30 a.m. There was no one else there waiting before us...we were a party of 8. We waited 20 minutes to get a table...which I thought was odd because it wasn't like the restaurant was crowded. Right before we got seated...it was obviously a bad night because the manager seemed to be making his rounds apologizing to some unhappy customers. Not to mention a party that was leaving told us that we should just find somewhere else to eat because "this Zippy's sucks." I should of listened... Finally get seated and we ended up waiting another 30 minutes for our food. While the waitress was very apologetic and she mentioned that "we got our food faster than everyone else". Apparently they didn't anticipate a "crowd"...so there was only 2 cooks blah blah blah. To make matters worse...I woke up this morning to reconcile my checkbook and I my credit card was charged twice. On the recommendation of my bank, I was told to call Zippys and let them know and have them fix it on their end. I get it it's Thanksgiving day...but the manager who I spoke to told me that I need to call back tomorrow and let them know to call their merchant services because their main office is closed....soooooo they screwed up so I have to further inconvenience myself tomorrow ... awesome. So lesson learned...heed the warning of a pissed off customer....I should have left when I had the chance....Zippy's Waiau...YOU SUCK.

The service at this Zippy's has worsened with each visit. In our last three visits, it took nearly 1 1/2 hours to complete our dining experience. We could live with slow service if the restaurant is extraordinarily busy and is accompanied by friendly service. This particular restaurant has deteriorated to a point where the poor service actually affects the quality of food, with hot food arriving cold and cold food arriving at room temperature. Today's experience finally pushed us to a point where we will never come back to this location. After waiting nearly 30 minutes until receiving a hello, our server Sharon finally decided to grace us with her presence. It seemed she was preoccupied with serving a few tables around the corner since she seemed to know a few of the guests sitting there. Anyway, our food finally came and the all was well for awhile. With trepidation, we decided to order dessert. After a long delay waiting for a menu, we placed our order. After another long wait, we received our dessert from a different server, complete with about half the ice cream completely melted. My family and I are not high maintenance customers but we do expect a reasonable level of service at a sit down restaurant. We have frequented this location for over 20 years and are disappointed that we won't be coming back.

4.16.13. Ever since this place was revamped and renovated, it's become one of my fav dine in locations!! Both the take out and restaurant side are well-lit, clean and have great service! I have to admit, Zippy's prices have inflated quite in these recent times...but there's no denying that their chicken is THE best and their chili is to die for! Yelp 365 Challenge: #105/365

I was in the mood for Zippy's because I haven't had it since I moved to the mainland. This location was nearby and my friend suggested we go for lunch because they have good customer service. I ordered mini chili, rice, corn, and chicken and it was so good. This was what I've been wanting for a long while.

Whenever I'm in Pearl City and I wanna get a bite to eat, I always end coming here even if I'm by Long's and theirs one right next to it I come to this one instead. I don't why I do, I think it's because theirs more parking. Haha. It's hard to choose what to eat, I guess because most of their food is great, especially their desserts! My boyfriend gets a little irritated sometimes when I take to long, but I can't help ;) Ever since they remolded this place It looks better than ever. Can't wait till I come back here again! Just writing about here is making me so hungry! Lol and It's a plus because it runs 24hrs!

Service/Food/Prices Service is fast, frequent and satisfying. The place is sometimes packed, but the service doesn't slack. Food is good. Quantities can be inconsistent but overall good. Prices are a bit on the expensive side. But it is one of the only places open 24/7 where you can dine in and be served. Convenience outweigh the prices though. Overall this place is good. I will continue to go here, especially for their Oxtail soup and Zip Pac.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Guess what Jeremy and I did? That's right, sit in traffic for three hours! YAY. During the entire car ride I was getting hungry. We were debating which Zippy's to go to that would be open in time and this was our safe bet (They be open twenty fo awahhh). Since 1) it was Halloween 2) there was the garbage truck incident there weren't much people and we got seated right away. For drinks, I got the Pepsi and he got the Fruit Punch, our waitress didn't ask which size we wanted so she got us a large. Mmhmm. Once we looked over the menu, I ordered the Oxtail Soup while he ordered the Korean Chicken plate and chili cheese fries. The Oxtail soup really hit the spot! I dug right in and I made a comment to Jeremy as we started munching. "We're so hungry, we're not even talking to each other." The meat in the soup had fat on it which they can't really help but at the same time I tried my best to remove the fat from the meat. Either way I didn't look at the piece and ate it. As I ate I realized my method wasn't as efficient as I thought it would so as room started opening up in the bowl, I added more rice (in the bowl). The other little touches in my soup added flavor to the meat and rice and I ate until I got full. From Jeremy's plates I got some corn and tried the chili cheese fries. The fries wasn't my thing. Our waitress was good on checking up on us. Got us drinks when she saw ours getting low. After clearing our plates, WE ORDERED DESSERT! He got the Fried Banana Fantasy and I just got the one scoop chocolate ice cream. I tried some of his and I forgot that banana created / made in any way (than it's original state) doesn't go well with my stomach. But it was only a small piece. Also according to Jeremy, the portion of the the Banana Fantasy was big! He finished it though, cause there's always room for dessert. My one scoop of ice cream was good enough.

Their Napoleon's Bakery is pretty well stocked. Some of the others barely have anything in there.

Since my hubby has to work on Thanksgiving, we had our meal the night before at Zippy's Waiau. We had the best meal thanks to our awesome server, Shari T. She checked on us a many times, made sure our beverages were filled and made us feel welcomed. She also took care of our special requests. Food was good too. :)

Cyndy's BOTTOM LINE: Great friendly service and consistently good food. Enjoy the breakfast either the mushroom omelet with cheese. Mushrooms sautéed in garlic butter. Yummy! The fish and eggs are delicious too. Mahimahi cooked well served with tartar sauce but I love it with lemon juice and shoyu it is delicious!

This place doesn't deserve any stars and here's why: Where do I begin? My boyfriend and I were hungry after doing some errands one night, and since we were in the area, we decided to stop by. We were seated immediately. [Note: it wasn't busy and it was a weekend.] But after 30 minutes of waiting for waters, a server, a hi or bye, or even a F you... we walked out. And when we did, no one said anything. And what was really messed up, we saw customers that came after us... get served and enjoy their meals. Zippy's, your customer service SUCKS!!! We will NOT be returning!

I've been going to this location since I was a child. Later, in high school, it became a constant hang out spot . The food's almost always consitent over the years and it's always been a casual atmosphere where you can eat, sit back, and relax and not feel rushed. There's always something on the menu for everyone. Daily specials and a bakery counter on site always helps too! Service has been, for the most part, fast and friendly. You gotta understand that being a server isn't aneasy job. I've never been one, but I can imagine what it's like as you see all the personalities that walk in. Zippy's chili has always been a favorite of mines. My kids love the no bean chili :) Other favorites include their Portugese bean soup and fried chicken, pastrami sandwich, ortheir char broiled burgers, especially the mushroom burger. Breakfast is served 24 hours a day. I like the corn beef hash and fried rice. They also serve chicken and waffles too now!!! Anyways, getting back to this location, it's been renovated and updated. Same layout, but updated, nice as it holds many memories frommy younger days and nights there with friends and family.

I'm ALWAYS happy to eat Zippy's with the old man (cause he usually buys) I LOVE the staff here EVERYONE down to the darn bussers say Hi...I LOVE THAT!!! We always eat at the dine in side at this location, there's never been a time where we had to wait more than 10 minutes (I can be patient believe it or not) Last night after EVERYTHING was done after all the running around town, put the kids to bed, it was just the 2 of us (old man) went to go grab a late dinner. Now I get it with the seasons coming that most businesses hire on new employees, I am pretty patient with it all, I mean HEY we were ALL once the trainee at one time in some of our employment pasts...we were served by a nice older woman named Lorena, I only noticed that she was a trainee cause I tend to look at their name tags so I can grill then or make them heroes on Yelp! LoL But WOW!!! SHE WAS AWESOME!!!! I couldn't even tell she was on her first night, she was good!!! VERY VERY pleasant lady!! KEEP UP THE AWESOME SERVICE!!! Oh yeah, the food was great I had the chili cheese fries and shared a plate of katsu chicken with the old man, always delicious never a time where I say Ewww!! LoL I think that if ANYONE could make a valid complaint about this location, it's because they EXPECT waaaaaay too much....just saying, you sound stupid when you complain about nothing at all..... CHEERS!! :)

The service wasn't that great. 1st we had a dirty table, had to ask the lady to re wipe it 2nd she was making werid faces. I don't know if it was towards us or to her friends but that just seemed rude. Lastly besides the dirty table . Had a dirty spoon. Looks like they either don't wash their dishes good or they don't wash it at all.

Can't really go wrong with Zippy's can you? The service has gotten better and the food is consistent. They always have daily specials and good deserts, too bad the portions are getting smaller, the tarter sauce isn't like how they used to make, I guess it easier to have prepackaged foods and sauces to cut down costs. I still will eat there, their one of the only 24 hour places on the west side close to my house.

My wife and I had dinner at Waiau Zippys the day before Mothers Day, mainly because my Senior Discount card expired that day. I was not expecting the great service and food because of the somewhat mediocre reviews. I ordered a rib steak with tossed and gravy on the mashed. My wife ordered the small broiled salmon. We were totally pleased with our meals and the service. Even the manager came over to make sure our Senior Discount card renewal was done to our satisfaction. BTW my steak was broiled perfectly, and fork-tender. I have a stash of gift cards for Morton's The Steakhouse but for half the price, I get great steak that's just big enough to satisfy--and Waiau Zippys is so convenient. BTW the Spouse Special Senior costs $25 a year. The old discount was $2 for 2 years. IMHO most seniors would not put up with such nonsense but if you put the shock and awe aside, the benefits are still probably a deal. P.S. 5 days after the dinner, and renewing my Senior Cards, I received the new cards and $10 gift certificates.

I must admit that I don't really come here for the food, although I do recommend the Zip Pack. It's quite filling, although I recently found out that certain items can be exchanged. For example, the teriyaki beef can be substituted for another piece of fried chicken. That's it for the food review. Read on for the real reason I come here. Basically, it's 24 hours and has ample room for people to meet. If you've ever been here on a Friday evening, there's a good chance you've seen myself and others hanging out in the corner. If you look over, there will be a couple of youngish and not so youngish looking people hunched over the table, staring intently at the cards they are grasping firmly in their hands. What are they doing, you may ask yourself? It's a collectible card game, CCG for short, called Legend of the Five Rings. If you're familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, or Magic the Gathering, it's a similar concept centered around Asian culture archetypes, such as ninjas and samurai. So, I come here most Fridays evenings to get my geek on and play cards, since it's open 24 hours and usually has ample room to setup shop, with food and beverages aplenty. Geek haven? Maybe not quite, but this place sure does attract a slew of strange characters, as evidenced by myself patronizing this establishment. Thanks, Zippy's Waiau, the Crane Clan and the Empire of Rokugan salute you.

I'm currently at the dining area waiting for our food. It's been more than 40 minutes and our server has not checked our table. Now we just got notified that the computer did not take our order in. How convenient. I need to stop coming here late at night.

I've been coming here since I was a kid. My nana and papa love this place and it's the only zippys they'll dine in at. The servers are always friendly and nice. And with the new renovations it looks nice. But I came here recently and the wait was kind of long to get our food. The waiter was nice though.

Take my order waited a while people got there orders before me and it's slow. Got my plate. Almost entire plate of rice is hard. Like its been a day old rice. Went to return it. Workers showed no sympathy or remorse. And gave me a bowl of rice in return. Again this place dissapoints me and this is my first time actually writing a bad review for this place and this is the last straw. Never coming here again. What kind of workers do you guys hire....

Terrible customer service. Will be going to the other 24hour restaurant (not a Zippy's) near Pearlridge from now on. Went with a party of 15 on Sunday, May 25, about 10:30pm. Was told there would be a hour wait for a table. There were 6 parties waiting ahead of us. Half of the restaurant was dark, but there were many unoccupied tables. The wait didn't seem too bad at first, because we were waiting for half of our party. While waiting, I noticed that no one came to the front desk area to acknowledge guests who were waiting to add there names to the wait list. After about 30 minutes, one of the parties ahead of us got seated. Soon after, The others that were ahead of us started leaving one by one. Guests were even waiting at the cashier desk for their checks. Seemed like they may not have had enough servers and cooks working. Why, during graduation season, and a long weekend, wouldn't they be prepared for this? The manger never came out and the other employees seemed to be avoiding everyone at the front who were waiting. Never experienced service (lack of service) like this before. There are now 15 people from my group, and possibly the other 20 that were also waiting, and who knows how many others that were in the restaurant, that won't be patronizing Zippy's Waiau again.

We have gone to Zippy's for years and mainly return to Waiau. Workers are great and some even great me by name. Food is local with good taste. I usually order the Korean Chicken or Hamburger Steak. Chilly and rice is great in cool weather but be sure to add cheese and onions. We usually eat in the outside area that is very comfortable.

My family, band family, and I love coming to this zippys. Most of the workers here, who know us, take care of us. We frequent here A LOT so of course the workers would know us by now. But we've always received awesome customer service whether it be from the take out side or the dining-in side. Just in FYI the take-out side takes long sometimes so you might want to call in your order before you go to pick it up. Couple time my boyfriend and I had to wait 20 mins or more just for a take-out and it wasn't busy at all.... So if it's a football night, graduation night, or any night for that matter call in your take-out orders.

Don't go here. Especially @ night. Service is awful. Had to ask for a take out container 3 times in an hour & I actually had to walk up to the counter where the cashier was & that person was clueless as well. All that trouble for a take out container! No sense of urgency whatsoever!

I hate to rate this Zippy's poorly, because this is where my friends and I would go to eat and talk story during high school. However, this place isn't what it used to be. Waiau Zippy's may have gotten a facelift a few years ago, which brought a better experience to the take-out side, but the service there is probably worst than before the renovation. I frequent the take out area often with the fiancee's family and it never fails to amaze me how indifferent and/or clueless the counter staff seem here. The kitchen staff seem no better either, as half the burgers I've had here were burned, portion sizes are inconsistent, and they seem to screw up my order quite often. I've pretty much given up trying to order CHILI spaghetti here, because they always seem to just toss on meat sauce. And even when they get the chili part right, they ALWAYS forget the cheese I ordered to go on top (which I get charged for btw). Haven't been in the dine-in side in years, so I can't really comment on how that is. At any rate, you're better off going to Pearl City Zippy's if you don't mind driving a little farther and dealing with that location's crappy parking situation. But you'll be rewarded with much better service and less screwup's!

This review is in reflection to the customer service at Zippys Waiau. Obviously, everyone knows about the great tasting food and variety of local plate lunches offered at Zippys. Its awesome! However, the CUSTOMER SERVICE that we were given at this one particular Zippys was HORRIBLE! Went in for a late night eat with my Dad after picking him up from the airport. It was about 1245 in the morning. We were seated right away, but it took literally like 15 minutes just to get a glass of water! When we finally ordered from the sweet older aged lady, it took yet another 20 minutes just to recieve our food! We only ordered a zip min, gravy fries and portuguese bean soup! Seriously, if it wasn't for me and my dad talking away and distracting ourselves from the hunger, I would have honestly thrown a bitch fit! I mean seriously, there was like 3 other couples! It was understandable if there was one cook, but seriously? 35 minutes just to eat?! Would have been better off doing take out and getting our food in 10! Horrible. The only reason why I give this location two stars is because of is cleanliness and newly renovated tables and chairs...

The service was good, the coffee was terrible. Husband got the Loco Moco and I got the sweet bread french toast. They were both pretty good. There is PLENTY of seating! I'm ashamed to say we didn't try anything from the bakery! But everything looked amazing there.

Everyone deserves a second chance. Yes, I suuuuure did give Zippy's only one star in my previous review -- don't gasp, it was well-deserved. Mind you, that was NOT because of their food -- it was for the poor customer service I had received one Saturday night a couple of weeks back. I love apple napples, their Orange Bang drinks and beanless chili with rice -- I grew up on all of that. But like I always say, it's important to yelp about the good stuff but just as important to yelp about the bad stuff, too. Now it's time to revise that initial review. Less than two full days after posting it, someone from Zippy's contacted me and wanted more details about my unfortunate experience. She apologized and assured me that the employee with the attitude problem would be addressed. Best of all, this woman seemed very sincere. The mere fact that Zippy's is paying attention to their yelp reviews impresses me. It's one thing for a business to send you a comment about your negative review, but it's another to reach out and attempt to right the wrong... you know what I mean? It's that extra step that makes a big, big difference. Zippy's also sent me a couple of credit vouchers, which surprised me. Completely unexpected but totally appreciated. Thanks, Zippy's. I will continue to grind and get stuffed on your beanless chili with cheese and pastries. Hope you guys had luck with the employee with the Worst Attitude Ever. Yeah, that needed to be capitalized. Don't gasp, she earned it!

I come here for the awesome desserts they have in their Bakery. The location is great because it's a hop and a skip from my Mom's house and you can be sure that you'll always find parking since there are'nt any other major businesses around besides Genki Sushi.

So when my friend wanted to know where I wanted to eat for lunch on Thanksgiving Day, I suggested Zippy's! Sure why not! Not only "Hawaii's restaurant of choice" but my "restaurant of choice" that day. We enjoyed our tofu-vegi burgers, french fries, and onion rings - not exactly vegan but at least lacto-ovo vegetarian, good enough for me and my friend. This Zippy's location was apparently recently renovated - interior looking good! Service was fine for Thanksgiving - we weren't the only customers on this special day. The veggie chili is super delicious (surprisingly) with the mushrooms and fake ground beef. My friend loves the chili so much he stocks up on the frozen variety whenever Long's has a sale. Good idea! Think I'll do the same though I'll probably be competing with him for the goods. The first time I had the veggie chili - I wasn't sure if it was exactly veggie because of the seeming ground beef. My omnivore friend was thinking the same thing.

Haven't been here since they did the whole renovation and I'm impressed. There is a large sit-down/take out area now and the restaurant side of this Zippy's looks really nice! There's even a counter/barstools you can eat at. They fancy, huh?? Good comfort and speedy food. Got my Zip Pac to go in only a few minutes. Can't really complain about service that fast, right?

*Since 98% of Hawaii knows their food - this review is more for their service. Nice renovation job, but I think they forgot to re-do their customer service. We were greeted and seated quickly, but sat at our table for almost 10 minutes without anyone coming by (we had the menus, but no water!). I had to wave down the guy at the front to ask where our waitress was. She came and took our order, but didn't apologize. My sister set her timer and said they will be redeemed if the food comes out in 5 minutes (I think she was joking)...it came out in 6! LOL So yeah, while we were waiting for our food, the people in the booth in back of us had to wave someone down to get their check too...he looked pretty pissed and said he was waiting for 10minutes for his waitress to come around. Anyway - my parents come here every week, and I don't know if they've had any problems, but I'll probably think twice before coming here again.

This place is one of four Zippy's located on this Kam Hwy stretch of road. I've been to this Zippy's many times after church and after hanging out with friends. I usually go to the take-out side but occasionally I'll go on the dine-in side. Take-out side of the restaurant is great. 4 stars. They're usually on the fast side with your order. If they're really busy they're still good with how long they take to get your order out. I've been to some Zippy's where it seems like they forgot your order because you've been waiting so long and you gotta remind them what you've ordered. But this location isn't the case. The take-out side seating area is also on the bigger side compared to the other nearby Zippy's. The dine-in side is another story. 3, maybe 2 stars. My most recent visit was on a Saturday night with a bunch of friends. The place wasn't even that busy but our orders took forever. I only ordered a corn bread and it seemed like it took a good 15-20 min. Some of our friends just ordered dessert and that came out in a timely manner but everything else didn't. Other people in our party whose order took forever was a Portuguese bean soup which I'm sure they should have it already made. By the time it came out, the top of the soup was congealed as if it was sitting for a long time. My other friend's Won Ton Min noodles was still stuck together and hard as if they had just opened the package it was in and threw it in the the broth and served it. I forget what everyone else had but the food and service was definitely well below par. I'm still a fan of Zippy's in general but maybe I'll stick to the take-out side for this location unless there's a consensus of our group that chooses the dine-in side. I always get my orders with brown rice which I really like that they provide this option. My favorites at Zippy's are the Chili Chicken Mix Plate, Zip Pac, Fried Chicken, and when available, they're miso garlic chicken. Final Comments: Will stick to the take-out side for this location. After writing this review, I'm actually craving some Chili Chix Mix Plate now... I'm HUNGRY! Overall Rating: "AVERAGE" Next Stop??? Zippy's!

Great place for local grinds & late night munchies after partying into the wee hours. My favorite item is the Zippys chill loco moco! Its so delicious, best combo ever. What makes it is the secret mayo sauce between the patties is just heaven. The deliciousness of it all is orgasm in your mouth kinda good! ~Sighs~ what can i say I'm a sucker for comfort food. They have a great variety of cuisines to choose from. Service: is pretty okay. Nothing special. They can accommodate big groups 15-20 pple. ( celebrated my hanai-bro's Bday) Price: You can find something to eat here with whatever budget you have, cheap to pricey they can satisfy your hunger. Parking: They share the parking lot with other business but there is always parking whenever I came so no worries really.

NEXT STOP!!! Yeah, I know. But hey, this location has a good dessert menu. That's what sets this Zippy's apart from the rest. I really love Zippy's and their extensive variety of menu choices. I love their hamburger steak with gravy all over!!! Mmmmm... Their Special menu is always interesting to look at and try also. They also have good fried chicken. Love it. Their Korean chicken seems to be popular among the crowd I go with. BUT you cannot forget the Orange Bang!!!? And they have it as a float here! Nuff said.

Always have a good experience here compared to other zippy's locations. The staff is always cheerful and customer service is great! The food is typical zippy's quality. The staff really sets this place apart from it's many clones around the island.

My wife & I went there Sat. night, we were seated pretty quickly but then we sat there for 20 minutes & no one even offered us any water or even let us know that someone would be by to assist us. We finally walked out, I spoke to a manager before leaving & she agreed that it shouldn't have happened but it didn't seem like she even cared. The service sucks, oh yeah , while we were waiting, there was waitresses walking by our table & not one asked if we were helped.

Zippy's Waiau went through some rennovations in the past, and the interior looks great. Parking is still kind of retarded, and there's always cats by my car when I eat there at night. But I think I can live with that. Went here after the gym one night (because the Pearl City location has horrible ... horrible ... horrible parking). Not that parking is much better at Waiau, but at least the stalls are bigger. Ordered a mini oriential chicken salad because I wasn't super hungry. And I also got four large waters. The cashier was nice enough to fill them all up for me! I think the service at the take-out side is great. I felt bad for the guy because he was the only one working the registers. But kudos because we did get our food rather quickly. Thomas O. ordered a mini spaghetti, and he was dismayed when he found out how watery it was. No one likes watery spaghetti. Keep in mind that when they say "mini" anything ... it really is a mini. And it's getting more and more expensive. My mini salad came with garlic bread, but because it was late, I gave it to Riana S. who ordered a won ton min. Her won ton min had choke of the outside covering and a little ball of meat on the inside. What kind of food is that? I get much better portions and servings at the Waipio Zippys and the Vineyard Zippys. Yelp 365: 030 of 365

Sometimes I wonder why there are 2 Zippy's within just a half a mile away from each other in the Pearl City area. This Zippy's is more in the Waimalu area in that little shopping plaza complex where it has Genki Sushi which is right on Kamehameha Highway. This location is pretty cool I guess. Sometimes I go here randomly for some grindz, mostly when I get munchies late at night. I think this one opens till late. This one has a sit down dine in area along with table seating areas for informal kine dine ins and take out. Napolean Bakery is of course right next door/stand. Just like the other Zipyy's, they have their little LCD screen showcasing monthly specials and stuff. The staff and customer service here is pretty good. There is a good decent amount of parking right in front of the restaurant. Whenever I come here it is hardly busy at all. I guess that's because I only come here during night times. I don't think I went here during the day time before but even then the vibe and atmosphere is pretty chillax.

I've been eating at the Nimitz location almost everyday for about 5 years straight back in the 90's, so I'm naturally burnt out on them. I just go there by unanimous decision now. But when we went to the dine-in restaurant at Waiau location, I decided to get a basic Teri-Burger with Fries. When they brought my food I received a Teri Hamburger Steak Plate with Fries. I told the lady, hey this is not what I ordered. She said sorry and started to take it back. But when I notice the prominent sear marks from their broiler, I told her wait a minute, I want to keep it cause it looks ono! (see photo) Ate it and broke da mouth! Next time I'll get it with rice and have them put teri sauce over the rice too. I am now a revitalized fan of Zippy's again, at least at the Waiau location.

Zippy's has really changed over the past few years. I miss when you could have a pork cutlet whenever you wanted instead of just on specials days. It also seems like the portions have gotten smaller. Also, there's no guaranteeing that your saimin will taste the same the next time you order it. I just hope Zippy's doesn't overprice itself someday.

Wow this place turned out nice after their renovation. Haven't been here since then. Went to have dinner with a friend last night in the Take Out section. Ordered our food and didn't have to wait long. Thank goodness. Service was great. We got a trainee, Kienen, as a cashier. He didn't mess up! In fact all the workers behind the counter were young, even the cook. Good for them! We sat near the windows which was not a great choice. There were geckos crawling everywhere OUTSIDE thank heavens. But it just wasn't appetizing to see their belly and eat our food. The noise level was pretty loud. There was a group of ladies having a meeting, a family of 5 with a boy screaming and crying, and another family with a girl running up and down the aisle excited about the hand sanitizer. So being in enclosed area, everything bounces and echos and just got irritating. Its like be quiet!! Now you can serve yourself for drinks. So free refills!! Got the small cup and went back for seconds. There is a big one stall bathroom with a changing table. Better than walking outside, yah Dara?! hahah They have the hand dryer instead of paper towels. You stick your hands in and pull them out slowly. Pretty cool. Parking lot was crowded. Had good crowds in Genki Sushi and in the Zippy's Dine-In. There were open stalls by House of Aria side. But not a bad walk. we found a nice big stall by the handicap stalls. Can't go wrong with Zippy's.

Zippys is Zippys and overall a 3.5 for food in my book, but being that its open 24/7 thats a definite plus. I just finished a movie that ended after 9p and we were hungry but didnt know what opened this late at night...we tried a couple places and called a couple places but unfortunately they all were closed or were closing at 10 and wouldnt be able to make it. Our search finally brought us to the trusty zippys and my friend really likes this location because its newly renovated and the more nicer ones of the zippys in the area. We dined in restaurant area and that was my first time since my childhood haha so it was a nice change of pace than the counter. One thing I love about zippys is that they have brown rice as an option and free of charge, unlike other places where you have to pay extra boo. Anyway, I got the mini teri beef and my friend got the classic fried chicken and chili. We looked over their new dessert menu exclusive to waiau zippys and everything looked really tasty. From fried cheesecake, to lilikoi ice cream cake rolls, to honeydew melon gelatin ice cream parfaits mmm. I had my eye on the ice cream cake but I was kinda full from the entree. Speaking of the entree, my teri beef was good and tender with nice grill marks. It had a good teriyaki glaze and marinade throughout. It also came with a side of mixed veggies such as corn, lima beans, string beans, carrots, and peas, you know the premixed frozen ones. Overall service was nice and the waiter was good at refilling our waters. I'd def like to come back here specifically to try their new desserts as the website says that the other locations wont be having it until later.

Waiau Shopping Center is definitely not a very happening shopping center so Zippy's is essentially the only reason I stop by here these days. This Zippy's is a good one to take the family for a night out as it's a big location with ample parking. Food-wise, there's nothing special here, it is Zippy's after all so the menu is the same as the other locations.

Review for the service, or lack-thereof... I never thought I would review a Zippy's Restaurant... but this just has to be said. If you're looking for service, THIS LOCATION is the place to avoid. After a night of cruising in Aiea, my buddy and I went to Zippy's Restaurant in Waiau. Newly renovated, and recently re-opened, I thought heck, justifies the reason I should drive a little further from Pearlridge to get my Zippy's fix. BIG Mistake. Got to the podium, and waited about 5 minutes to be seated. The restaurant was empty, which couldn't justify us waiting a while. The hostess, bless her heart, was running around like a chicken without a head all over the place. I was more forgiving after I saw "In Training" on her name tag. We got seated... after waiting about 10 minutes without water, our server finally says the cliché-ic "I'll be with you in just a minute..." 3 minutes passed... 4... 5... thankfully one of the floater people saw we were waiting and empathized with us saying... "I don't know where your waitress went, I'll take your order". The floater, if anything... was the life saver, hence 2 stars... Lesson learned... just because something is new, doesn't mean it's always better. For Zippy's, if you're looking for service... avoid this location and drive less than a mile up Kamehameha Highway to the Pearl City location!

Gotta love Zippys!! It's the ultimate comfort food for me ... especially after a late night out. This is the first time I've visited this location since its renovation ... I wasn't that impressed to be honest! The building definitely looks from the front, but not much has changed inside. They've updated the look in the front but the restaurant side looks exactly the same, just with new paint and new upholstery. Me and a couple of friends went at around 9 o'clock on a Thursday and actually waited to be seated ... even though there were two workers standing and talking ... even after they saw us waiting to be seated. I don't think I've ever had to wait before ... well when the place is rather empty?!? The savior was our waitress! She was funny and personable which made it easy for us to enjoy our time there. I didn't have any issues with her level of service! FINAL VERDICT: When in doubt ... ZIPPYS!!!

Note to Zippy's management and staff. If you have pieces of fried chicken sitting around since the morning, it would make sense NOT to serve the dried out strips of meat formally known as fried chicken in the evening. If you wouldn't eat it, why would you make your customers do it? I added a star just because they took it back and corrected the issue.

A couple days after this review I went to Zippy's in Kaneohe (next to Windward Mall) for my usual waffle combo. I must warn you that their waffle was not as crispy as I like them but still good in taste. I prefer the waffles from the Waiau location.

I've been dining at Zippy's since I was a child and I've come to the conclusion that your experience at ANY Zippy's location depends on WHO is working at that particular time. Beginning with the food, the taste is pretty consistent with wherever you go except for the fried chicken. I've had it burnt to a crisp and raw as hell in the middle, in which case I've taken it back for a new piece. My favorite dishes are their zip min, zip pac, and brownie delight (which you can only order inside the restaurant). This particular Zippy's, unfortunately, is not one of my top picks. The other week we arrived to have a late dinner and was asked to wait for an available seat (which is perfectly normal). We waited about 20 minutes, which should have actually been about 5-10 minutes on a normal occassion. When we sat down our waitress, Maria, took 10 minutes to ask us what we wanted to drink. Again, not normal. It took another 15 for the 2 waters to come out. At this point I was starting to becoming very angry but at the same time I felt sorry for Maria because it seems she was the only waitress that night and her other helpers were idiots. We ordered and the food came out and we ate. At this point we were there for over an hour. I really wanted to get my usual brownie delight but was afraid I'd have to wait another 15 minutes and I knew Maria had to make it but didn't wanna stress her out with what she was dealing with. Unfortunately, this terrible experience was due to the lack of staffing for whatever reasons. Like I said, it depends on the people who are there. The food is pretty good but has gotten very pricey over the past years and portion sizes have also decreased (I'm suspecting budget cuts). All in all, Zippys is a good place to have local style food but if you're a regular like me you'd understand what I'm talking about when it comes to food and service.

I usually love Zippy's, but had a few past bad experiences at this point. The servers are not friendly (we have only had one very nice server recently), and the food comes out cold. We ordered chili nachos, and many of the nachos were stuck together (stacks of about 15 chips) and inedible. As we left, we ordered pastries, and the lady at the counter was very aloof, made an error with our bill, and was totally unapologetic. Will not be going back here.

The renovations are complete and the place is nice. The old servers are back so you get to see are the friends faces again. In coming over the years, I do notice that its alot more crowded!!! Parking is tighter now but you can still manage to find some near the back. Zippys has been around for years and the Higa family definetly knows how to keep the local families happy with its Chili.

No way I'll be seen in this place again... A friend just arrived, straight from the airport, we were raving about Zippys is the place where all visiting tourist must come to have that local experience. But not to this Zippy's. It took them 5 minutes to get us seated, they handed us the menu. The hostess told us that they are closing at 12 because of short staffing. We realized that we only have an hour to enjoy our meal. We all wanted to order the boneless kalbi (special menu). We waited 25 minutes and still no waitress, no one even came to ask us if we want something to drink. we looked around and there were only four other people there. So, where the hell are the waitresses. We were very frustarted,!!! We figured that we won't have time to eat in there so we moved to the dining out (order to the counter). Unfortunately, the boneless kalbi was a dining room special. We told the counter person how long we were waiting inside and no waitress came to check on us. Yet no apology or let me see what I can do to get that order for you. We were hungry so we didn't drive to another Zippy's. We ordered the usual chicken and chili plate. It was an embarrassing experience, to have our visitor experience that kind of service. We are still going to Zippy's, just not to Waiau location. The management need to fix their staffing problem.

Service can be better. When our order finally came 25 minutes later, the oxtail soup was not hot more like room temperature. I had to have it zapped to melt those floating stuff. Unless you waive at a waitress, no one comes and refill water or coffee. Zippys is one of our favorite restaurants but next time we'll drive another mile to the one at Pearl City where service is a lot better.

Best place to go anytime of day, especially if your too lazy to cook. As always the bf orders his fried noodles with side order teri beef. Me I try to eat something different everytime. So I chanced the daily special of a small order of sweet sour spare ribs. To my surprise it was good, the meat was soft and it was perfectly brewed. I even had room to try their new desserts. I had the 3 flavored ice cream (vanilla, chocolate and coffee) in a light chiffon cake with chocolate and caramel drizzles. I don't care for sweets too much but this just hit the spot. Our server was great, ensuring our water was topped off and the pepsi could never reach the bottom of the glass before she brought another one. She was quick and I enjoyed her pleasant personality.

Friendly staff, they get my order right & it's super clean since the renovations. I wasn't impressed w/ the chicken cutlet special though because it was just their chicken katsu w/ gravy on it. The chicken cutlet was better at the Pearlridge & Kapolei Zippy's.

No competition, the best flakey glazed donut ever!! ^_^ I will get cravings for this darn donut in the middle of the night, and no, I'm not pregnant, but at least if I was it would be an excuse. I know technically I should be reviewing Napoleon's Bakery, but I'm going to combine them, since it's owned by Zippy's anyways. Anywayz...Back to the flakey glazed donut...OMG...I love how it is kinda crispy on the outside, covered in that sweet glaze that kind of crumbles off and sprinkles your shirt with little glazed bits, which I secretly nibble off later. Don't judge me... I love how the inside is so soft, and almost moist, but it's not. MmMmMm...My absolute favorite part of the donut, and those of you who like this donut will know what I'm talking about, is what i like to refer to as the donut okole. You know what I'm talking about, that first piece on the end that sticks out and if you're lucky, sometimes there are two. That's what I'm talking about! I love that donut okole and often times if people buy them for home, I will steal all of the donut okoles and leave the rest behind! Heaven! Ok, so back to Zippy's now that I've divulged me deepest darkest secret about my flakey glazed fetish! So, being that this vast island is sprinkled with Zippy's locations, if you haven't tried it yet, you must either be a hermit, or new to the island. My favorite location is the Waiau location and the one on Young Street. The service is usually pretty good, most of the servers are friendly and courteous. The wait time for the food is decent. You get the occasional "not so nice, no I don't want to sit in her section the next time we come" waitress, but that's the wonderful thing, you can be picky and not sit in her section the next time. The food is comfort food, it's not here to WOW you, it's here to satisfy your hunger and delight you with food you'd find on the dinner table at home. My fave...The Korean Chicken, next is the Fried Chicken, the Teriyaki Hamburger steak is delicious, I get mine with no onions and extra teri sauce, and I love the loco moco with brown rice. Any of the saimins are scrumptious, make sure you ask for double garnish, it'll cost you, but it's worth it. If you haven't tried the orange bang, try it! If you like orange. It's a frothy, chilled, yummy, orange sherberty tasting drink. The lilikoi is good too, but they won't serve it in the restaurant side...I don't know why, it's kinda ridiculous since they'll go over and get you donuts if you want, the orange bang if you want, but if you want the lilikoi, too bad. Strange. Ok, so that's it...oh yeah, I probably go to zippy's at least once a week. Yum!

Went to Zippy's to get some "local" food. It was pretty good. They have bean-less chili. Bonus! I had chili over rice. It was pretty tasty and you get a pretty big portion. We also got some pastries, but we really weren't that impressed. The pastries really weren't fresh and I guess from the way they were hyped to us, we just expected too much.

I hate to make a generalization, but I liken this place to a Hawaiian Denny's...and I mean that in the best way possible. We had lunch here with some locals who told us that this was a fairly new location and that the dine-in area is unique to this location. The menu has a great selection of Hawaiian fair...I went with the popular Zip Pac, which is their bento plate consisting of fried chicken, spam, fish filet, and teri beef served with rice. It was a solid dish...nothing extraordinary as you can probably tell by the description, but very filling. We also ordered a side of grilled cornbread, which was very sweet and buttery. I tried the fruit punch drink served here...the first glass I had seemed to be a little watered down, but subsequent refills were sweet. I was disappointed with the service...it took quite a bit for our order to be placed and our drinks and food to be served. To be fair, the place was quite busy during the lunch hour and our waitress went on break shortly after we sat down. When they did come around, the wait staff was very courteous. Still, the waiting time was a sore point of my visit. Finally, be sure to stop by the Napoleon Bakery on the way out. The famous Apple Napple (basically an apple pastry) is MUST TRY!

This particular location of Zippy's is a special one. Since they are located right on Kam Highway, they get plenty business which means THEY WILL BE BUSY ON WEEKENDS. Don't expect to be seated and served within minutes of walking in. Customers just need to be patient and understand that the servers there need to take care of a LOT of things. Being patient and understanding will pay off in the long run with the great food and the wonderful people that work there.

Okay, over the years this has been the default late night stop to get some decent food at reasonable prices. My friend and I were craving their chili and decided on visiting the Waiau restaurant location. I was disappointed when I got my Mini Chili/Chicken plate...I wish I took a picture! The chicken was tiny (and I mean tiny!) and dry, as if it was sitting under the heater since the morning, and the side of veggies it came with looked like it was freezer-burned and reheated in a microwave. Even the chili wasn't as good as I remember. I am giving this place 3 stars because the waitress and staff were friendly and attentive.

SMH

I'm currently at the dining area waiting for our food. It's been more than 40 minutes and our server has not checked our table. Now we just got notified that the computer did not take our order in. How convenient. I need to stop coming here late at night.

I've been coming here since I was a kid. My nana and papa love this place and it's the only zippys they'll dine in at. The servers are always friendly and nice. And with the new renovations it looks nice. But I came here recently and the wait was kind of long to get our food. The waiter was nice though.

  • Jess J.

My favorite Zippy's. Excellent service, ono food, and convenient for me. Zip Min is my favorite but everything on their menu is delicious. Enjoy an Island Favorite!!! Oh, and they updated their menu so it's a lot easier to look through!

Don't go here. Especially @ night. Service is awful. Had to ask for a take out container 3 times in an hour & I actually had to walk up to the counter where the cashier was & that person was clueless as well. All that trouble for a take out container! No sense of urgency whatsoever!

The menu is hard to open. The design is really nice, but you have to hold the pages to look at it.

Always slow service, waiting over 10 minutes just to sit down and its 9:30 pm! This happens every time we come here and once we sit down it takes over 10 minutes for a server to come! And they complain about lost of business from the rail? Maybe you should give better service and not blame the rail!!!
